TULLA musician Sorcha Costello has been named TG4 Young Musician of the Year 2021. The prestigious award was presented to the 21-year-old fiddler at a ceremony in Killaloe, Co. Clare. Costello's performance of "The Old Grey Goose" with Catherine McHugh has already garnered over 24,000 views on YouTube.
Costello's musical journey began at a young age, with her grand-uncle, the late Tony MacMahon, serving as an early inspiration. Her mother and uncle, Mary and Andrew MacNamara, also played a significant role in her musical development.
Costello is currently working on her debut solo album, which is expected to be released later this year. The album will feature a mix of traditional and contemporary Irish music.
The TG4 Gradam Ceoil awards are among the most prestigious in Irish traditional music. Costello's win is a testament to her talent and dedication to her craft.
